MARGAO: Betalbatim Veterans edge out Benaulim Veterans by a solitary goal to enter the quarter-finals of the 2nd Kala Mogi goa Veterans football tournament played at Betalbatim ground on Wednesday.
Fr Franky Fernandes opened the scoreline for Betalbatim Veterans with a beautifully tapping ball in the far corner of Benaulim’s goal in the 6th minute of the game while Pele Fernandes of Benaulim veterans powerful shoot from the box missed the frame. The half-time score remained 1-0 in favour of Betalbatim.
In the second session, Charles of Benaulim veterans missed the opportunity to level the score in the 37th minute while Rocky, Jhonson and Patrick played well for Benaulim to find the equaliser but the defence of Betalbatim consisted of Niazi Shaikh, Nelson and Luis stood firm and denied the equaliser.
Fr Franky Fernandes missed the opportunity to score in the dying minutes of the game.
