PANAJI: The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) has suspended the licenses granted to Hughes Precision Manufacturing Pvt Ltd for the storage and transportation of gunpowder following the fire incident that occurred late Thursday night at the company’s gunpowder storage facility in Naqueri-Betul.
On Saturday, PESO representatives from the Indian government’s Ministry of Commerce & Industry are anticipated to travel to Goa and examine the Naqueri site.
The magazine is unsafe to use as a result of the accident, according to PESO, which also notes that the occurrence violates Rules 118(2)(ii) and 131 of the Explosives Rules, 2008.
PESO has suspended the licenses granted to Hughes Precision Manufacturing Pvt Ltd, Bangalore, Karnataka, in response to a report that was provided to the organization by Egna Cleetus, the district collector for South Goa.
According to the provisions of Section 6€ of the Explosives Act, 1884 and Rule 118(5) of the Explosives Rules, 2008, the subject license granted for the road van for the carriage of explosives is suspended as an interim measure, PESO Joint Chief Controller of Explosives R Rawat informed the company in a communiqué.
The business has also been instructed to provide justification for why the license shouldn’t be revoked within 21 days of the communication date. The business has also been instructed to abide by the directive and dispose of any explosives in its possession in accordance with Rule 119 of the Explosives Rules, 2008. The business has also been instructed to appeal via the process outlined in Rule 121.
On Friday, South Goa district collector Egna Cleetus issued an order banning individuals from entering the Hughes Precision Magazine No.1 (Old) Naqueri-Quepem site due to the fire disaster that occurred late Thursday night at a gunpowder storage dump at Naqueri-Betul.
Until further orders are issued, the order issued under section 163 of the BNS, 2023, has taken effect immediately within 800 meters of the radius.
The order was issued in response to a report from Cuncolim police that stated that of the two magazines (storage units) of Hughes Precision located in Sy.No.82/1, Naqueri, Magazine No. 1 (Old) had caught fire and that Cuncolim’s fire services personnel had arrived on the scene and put out the fire.
