PANAJI: In the wake of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill’s passage through Parliament, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expressed his gratification, asserting that the legislation symbolizes a victory for India and its Constitution. The bill received approval from both houses of Parliament, with the Lok Sabha voting in favor on Thursday and the Rajya Sabha following suit early Friday morning. The Lok Sabha passed the bill with 288 votes in favor and 232 against, while the Rajya Sabha secured 128 votes for and 95 against.
Chief Minister Sawant took to social media platform ‘X’ to share his thoughts on the bill’s passage, stating, “Bharat has won The Constitution of Bharat has prevailed!” He emphasized that the new legislation enhances transparency, accountability, and inclusive representation within Waqf Boards, ensuring efficient management.
Sawant extended his congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju for their pivotal roles in advancing and securing the bill’s passage in Parliament.
