Curtorim: Bhatti Sports Club booked their spot in the finals of the Silver Jubilee Cup 2025 inter-ward football tournament after edging past host team SC Virabhat 4-2 in a nail-biting tiebreaker on Wednesday. The tournament is being organized by Sporting Club Virabhat and played at the St. Alex Church Ground, Curtorim.
The closely contested semifinal saw both teams locked in a goalless draw at full time, despite several scoring opportunities. SC Virabhat had an early chance to take the lead in the 10th minute when Floydon Fernandes’ powerful shot rattled the crossbar, narrowly missing the net. Bhatti SC also created chances but were repeatedly thwarted by a resilient Virabhat defense.
The second half remained equally intense. Bhatti came close to scoring when Ralf Dias struck a powerful shot that hit the post and bounced back into play. Virabhat goalkeeper Johnson Bogot made a crucial save, punching the ball out of danger. With neither side able to break the deadlock, the match headed into a penalty shootout.
In the tie-breaker, Bhatti SC held their nerve, converting four of their five shots. Macroy, Tony, Ralf, and Aaron successfully scored for Bhatti, while only Lourdes and Floydon managed to find the net for SC Virabhat. The decisive saves and solid performance by Bhatti’s goalkeeper Perry Dias earned him the Man of the Match award, presented by Mowin Noronha, a member of SC Virabhat.
Bhatti Sports Club will now face Agxem Sports Club in the grand finale of the tournament, scheduled for Sunday, June 22, 2025. Fans can expect an exciting finish to the prestigious inter-ward competition.
