PONDA: MGP President Dhavalikar Criticizes Vijai Sardesai’s Remarks on Bhausaheb Bandodkar
In a sharp rebuke, Maharashtra Gomantak Party (MGP) President Dipak Dhavalikar has condemned the recent statement by Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai regarding Goa’s first Chief Minister, Bhausaheb Bandodkar. During a telephonic conversation with Goemkarponn, Dhavalikar emphasized the need for Sardesai to understand the historical context and the stature of Bhausaheb Bandodkar before making such comments.
Dhavalikar pointed out that the central Congress leadership, led by Indira Gandhi, was opposed to Goa being either a union territory or a state, which led to the imposition of the Opinion Poll in 1967. Despite being against the merger with Maharashtra, Bandodkar faced immense pressure from the Centre. “Bhausaheb internally supported Dr. Jack Sequeira’s movement during the Opinion Poll,” Dhavalikar explained, highlighting the complexities of the historical event.
This internal support, according to Dhavalikar, is akin to how Sardesai currently supports the ruling dispensation internally. “Vijai needs to study about Bhausaheb before making such comments,” he advised, questioning whether Sardesai’s remarks indicate an “allergy” to Bhausaheb and the MGP. Dhavalikar concluded by stating that if such an allergy exists, it is beyond their control.
