New Delhi: Veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has put the ball firmly in the selectors’ court when asked about his return to international cricket. The 35-year-old, who last represented India in November 2022, said that despite giving his 100% in domestic cricket, selection decisions are beyond his control.
“The selectors will answer this question,” Bhuvneshwar told Dainik Jagran. “My job is to perform whenever I play—be it in the UP League, Mushtaq Ali, Ranji or one-day tournaments. I focus on fitness, line and length. Sometimes even good performances don’t guarantee opportunities, as luck also plays a role.”
The swing specialist, with 21 Tests, 121 ODIs and 87 T20Is under his belt, has been out of India’s plans under the current selection panel led by Ajit Agarkar.
On speculations linking Rajeev Shukla’s possible elevation as BCCI president to greater opportunities for UP players, Bhuvneshwar dismissed the notion. “Performance is paramount. If you are consistently good, you cannot be ignored for long. Leadership changes won’t directly impact selections, though talent from UP will surely get noticed,” he said.
For now, the veteran pacer remains determined to continue grinding in the domestic circuit, hoping that performances speak louder than anything else.
