BICHOLIM: Bicholim Police rescued a minor girl who had gone missing from Kudchirem, Bicholim, and arrested a 19-year-old youth from Maharashtra in connection with the case.
The incident came to light on September 24 when the brother of the minor, a native of Kankumbi, Karnataka, raised an alarm after learning that his sister, who was studying in a higher secondary school in Sattari while staying with their aunt, had not reached her native place as claimed.
Following the complaint lodged by the aunt, Bicholim Police registered an offence of kidnapping under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act, 2003, against an unknown accused.
Two police teams were immediately dispatched to Maharashtra and Karnataka. Through technical surveillance and human intelligence inputs, the girl was traced to Kankavli, Maharashtra. With assistance from Kankavli Police, she was safely rescued, and the accused, identified as Goraksh Kishor Hodavdekar (19), resident of Vishnu Apartments, Parab Wadi, Kankavli, was apprehended and placed under arrest.
He was produced before JMFC, Kankavli, and brought to Bicholim under transit remand.
The operation was led by PI Vijay V. Rane Sardesai of Bicholim Police Station under the supervision of SDPO Bicholim, Shridevi B.V. (IPS), and overall guidance of SP North, Porvorim, Rahul Gupta (IPS). Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Amarnath Palni.
