Mandrem: In alignment with the objectives of the New Education Policy, Mandre High School organised a special bird watching activity aimed at raising awareness about biodiversity among students.
Students from classes VI and X enthusiastically participated in the event, which was conducted in two sessions. Bird enthusiast Manjit Gawas served as the resource person for the program.
In the first session, Gawas delivered an informative PowerPoint presentation highlighting various local bird species and their characteristics.
The second session involved a hands-on bird watching exercise in the school premises, where students observed birds through binoculars. They keenly noted the birds’ calls, colours, shapes, and movements, engaging closely with the natural environment.
Teachers guided the students throughout the activity, which concluded with a discussion and presentation of the students’ bird-watching observations.
School Principal Mrs. Aparna Prabhu emphasised the importance of such activities in fostering environmental awareness. “Programs that connect students with nature help develop sensitivity and a scientific outlook,” she stated.
The initiative was well-received and marked a successful step toward experiential learning and environmental education.
