CANACONA: Minister for Tribal Welfare Ramesh Tawadkar described Bhagwan Birsa Munda as the “Father of Tribal Identity” while addressing the 150th Birth Anniversary celebrations held at Amone–Painguin. He said today’s youth are not directionless, and with proper guidance, they can become powerful drivers of social transformation.
Speaking at the Janajatiya Gaurav Varsh programme, Tawadkar said Birsa Munda proved that with the right ideology, organisation, courage, and sacrifice, injustice cannot survive. “The younger generation must draw inspiration from his leadership, struggle, and commitment to society,” he added.
The celebration was jointly organised by the Adarsh Yuva Sangh and Balram Education Society, with strong participation from villagers, students, and youth who gathered to honour the legacy of Dharti Aaba Birsa Munda.
Present for the event were Balram Education Society Manager and Painguin Panchayat Sarpanch Savita Tawadkar, Adarsh Yuva Sangh President Chandrakant Velip, Secretary Deepak Velip, Canacona BJP Mandal President Prabhakar Gaonkar, South Goa BJP Vice President Mahesh Naik, Mandal member Ashok Gaonkar, Headmaster Ashok Gaonkar, along with teachers and local residents.
Tawadkar praised Balram Education Society for promoting Birsa Munda’s ideals and appreciated the Adarsh Yuva Sangh for maintaining an “addiction-free” membership, calling it a true reflection of Birsa Munda’s values.
Students presented cultural performances, slogans, and activities showcasing tribal culture and heritage.
