CANACONA: The birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the whole of Canacona taluka on Wednesday.
Many of the villages, under the ‘Swatchta Hi Seva’ Cleanliness Drives were held during the morning sessions, while including some institutions garlanding of potraits of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri programs were held.
Canacona BJP Mandal celebrated the birth anniversary of both the leaders at the party (BJP) office with Canacona MLA and Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, Mandal President Vishal Desai, and other office bearers and activists garlanding the portraits of both the leaders in a brief program. Tawadkar paid tributes to both the leaders by offering floral wreaths to the portraits.
Canacona congress block led by President Abel Tome Borges in a brief program garlanded the Portraits of Gandhi and Shastri, and later alongwith members participated in cleanliness drives held in the area.
Chaudi councillor Ramakant Naik Gaonkar organized cleanliness drive in Kindlem, Mangan, Pansulem and Chaudi taking along the students of Katyayani Baneshwar Vidyalaya, Jijau Mahila Mandal with its president and former CMC Chairperson Prathanna Naik Gaonkar, Katiyani Baneshwar Vidyalaya Chairman Darshan Naik Gaonkar, KBM teachers, councillors Amita Pagi, Narcisco Fernadis and many citizens of the village participated.
A cleanliness drive was also held in the office and surrounding areas Canacona Mamlatdar office. Mamlatdar Manoj Korgaonkar, Talathi Rohidas Gaonkar, other officials and employees of Mamlatdar office and Deputy Collector office participated in the cleanliness drive.
In the Chaudi cleanliness drive held under ward councilor Ramakant Naik Gaonkar, a large number of women and men of Chaudi ward participated in the cleanliness campaign from from Sheler to Ravindra Bhavan.
Appealing to keep their surroundings clean alongwith their houses, parishioners of Agonda church under different Somudais held cleanliness drives in the entire village of Agonda and collected heaps of large garbage bags. The cleaning drives were held in the areas particularly where the few of the residents regularly discards their waste and garbage, in spite of panchayat has arrangements to regularly pick-up garbage from the residences twice a week.
