PANAJI: BJP today announced its final list of six candidates for the coming Goa Assembly Elections.
The list includes Rajesh Patnekar for Bicholim, Joseph Sequeira for Calangute, Antonio Fernandes for St Cruz, Janita Madkaikar for Cumbharjua, Narayan Naik for Cortalim and Anthony Barbosa for Curtorim.
As per sources, the list was kept pending owing to multiple contenders demanding for tickets. The BJP is contesting all 40 seats for the first time in the coastal State. The list was decided on after hectic deliberations that dragged through till Tuesday night.
BJP finally managed itself to find Joseph Sequeira as its candidate for Calangute constituency.
In Cumbarjua, Siddesh Naik son of Union Minister Shripad Naik failed to feature in the list as the ticket was passed on to MLA Pandurang Madkaikar’s wife Janita.
In Bicholim, after much deliberations and promise of a cabinet berth after government formation, the BJP managed to get back Rajesh Patnekar to contest.
In St Cruz, Babush’s close aide and former Taleigao Sarpanch Agnelo failed to get a ticket and the ticket was given to sitting MLA Antonio Fernandes.
Asserting that the BJP government would emerge triumphant in the election slated to be held on February 14, Fadnavis said that in the last decade, the BJP, first under Manohar Parrikar and now under Mr. Sawant, had ended the ‘instability’ plaguing Goa’s politics.
“While other parties in the poll fray have a one-point agenda of fighting the BJP, our party has been fighting for Goa’s development,” he added.
