PONDA – In what could be termed as a major setback to the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, yet another party councillor in Ponda Municipal Council joined the BJP, taking its tally to 10.
Virendra Dhavlikar, MGP councillor, joined the BJP in the presence of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
The development comes four days after Yatish Sawkar, switched over to BJP from MGP.
Earlier, three councillors from Congress have joined the saffron-brigade.
The BJP’s strength is now 10 in a 15 member council.
Only a few days ago MGP candidate Ameena Naik had defeated BJP-backed Anand Naik in the Dy chairperson election.
Within days, the BJP has been able to engineer the split in MGP and the Congress.
