PANJIM: Aam Aadmi Party has highlighted the dismal plight of the Corona Warriors in Goa. Recalling that the Govt has made people stand in balconies to clap for them, and showered petals on them using military aircraft, spokesperson Valmiki Naik expressed shock that the Govt has now completely abandoned our Corona Warriors at a time when need the most support.
Naik pointed out that Covid facilities are critically understaffed, putting both Corona Warriors and the patients at risk. As per sources, currently there are only 2 nurses per 60 patients in the Covid hospital. There is also a shortage of ambulance staff, paramedics, cleaning staff, attendants, nurses and doctors. Naik concluded that it is clear that the BJP is more interested in purchasing Congress party MLAs and Members than saving Goan lives through proper Covid management.
Relating a shocking incident at the District Hospital in Mapusa recently, AAP leader Pradeep Ghadi Amonkar said that despite one of the administrative staff being tested positive, the rest of the staff were denied tests stating that none of them have any symptoms. Only after the panic-stricken staff were reduced to tears were their swabs taken after repeated repeated pleas and many hours. When the results were received the next day, 6 of them were found positive.
Amonkar recalled that AAP has pressed the Goa Govt to focus on our Corona warriors right from day one. “We had demanded better salaries, more PPE equipment, proper rotation of shifts, comfortable housing, and regular testing”, but nothing was done, said Amonkar. Chiding the CM for doing a photo-op as a doctor on OPD duty at the Mapusa District Hospital in April, Amonkar demanded that the CM should visit the hospital and other covid facilities now, to understand the plight of the frontline workers.
