CALANGUTE: Calangute taxi operators have demanded a one-on-one meeting with the minister of transportation and other relevant authorities. The Goa taxi industry has accused the BJP administration of being complicit in all the scams pertaining to the industry.
Speaking with the media, one of the cab drivers claimed that corruption and con artists have long plagued the Goan transportation sector. In order to stop the widespread fraud in the taxi business, taxi operators have been calling on the government and other authorities to hold them accountable.
He continued by saying that the BJP government supports people outside of Goa rather than taxi drivers in Goa. They added that although no action has been taken against them, drivers for the Goa Miles Company are overcharging tourists and operating without the necessary permissions and licenses.
On the other side, as Goan taxi drivers, we are compelled to pay heavy fines for breaking any regulations. He continued, “Our complaints have been disregarded for far too long—years.” It’s time for corner authority to shine light on the frauds and corruption plaguing Goa’s transportation sector.
Taxi scams may be extremely detrimental to both passengers and taxi operators, placing a heavy financial burden on the industry.
A taxi operator’s trust and reputation may suffer if they are connected to scams; this could lead to a general downturn in business and the loss of customers. Earnest entrepreneurs that strive to provide superior services may suffer professional setbacks due to the negative publicity scammers generate.
They went on, “We have no other means of subsistence; we are completely dependent on this business.”
