PORVORIM: The Bharatiya Janata Party lost the Soccoro panchayat as the Sarpanch Sandeep Vazarkar and deputy defeated by 6-0 votes.
Last week, six members of the Rohan Khaunte panel in Socorro panchayat submitted a letter expressing no-confidence against sarpanch Sandeep Vazarkar, who had recently joined BJP.
The no-confidence motion was signed by panch members Anil Pednekar, Sanjay Pednekar, Sandeep Manjrekar, Ravlu Parsekar, Reshma Morajkar and Maya Keni.
The letter was handover to Block Development Officer Bardez while accusing the Sarpanch of not taking other members into confidence in the village developmental activities. Sarpanch failed to take action against illegal construction and land grabbing within the jurisdiction of Soccoro village jurisdiction.
With the Block Development Officer keeping a long period between the issuing of the no-confidence motion and the actual meeting to discuss it, all the six members of Socorro Panchayat, who had shown no confidence in Sarpanch Sandeep Vazarkar and his deputy Deepali Satardekar, feared misuse of government machinery to sabotage the process.
The group of panch members led by Anil Pednekar had pointed out that while in case of Salvador do Mundo, who was toppled by BJP backed panch members, had an entire process of ousting the old Sarpanch and installing the new Sarpanch within seven days, whereas in case of Succoro, the time-lapse between no-confidence motion and meeting to discuss it is 13 days.
