New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) parliamentary board will convene on August 17 at the party headquarters in New Delhi, with discussions on the ruling National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) nominee for the upcoming Vice-Presidential election expected to top the agenda, party sources said.
According to a senior BJP leader, “The meeting is scheduled for 17 August 2025 at the BJP office in Delhi. All parliamentary board members will attend, and deliberations on the NDA’s candidate for Vice-President are likely.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president JP Nadda, and other senior leaders are set to be present.
On August 6, NDA leaders unanimously passed a resolution authorising PM Modi and BJP chief JP Nadda to finalise the alliance’s candidate for the Vice-Presidential election, which will be held on September 9 if contested.
The post fell vacant after Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, 74, resigned on July 21 citing health reasons. In his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu, posted on the Vice-President’s official X handle, Dhankhar wrote, “To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice-President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.”
The Election Commission has notified that voting will take place between 10 AM and 5 PM on September 9 at the First Floor of the Parliament House.
