PANAJI: BJP Goa Unit President Sadanand Tanavade today said that BJP has postponed all its public meetings in view of the rising COVID-19 cases in the state.
“As the positivity in the state is increasing, we have postponed all our party public meetings until further notice; we will now be going ahead with door to door campaigning. We might conduct some corner meetings in small halls keeping less crowd and social distancing,” said Tanavade.
He further said BJP’s door to door campaigning has been getting tremendous response from the public.
“We have cancelled 3 public meetings scheduled for today in view of rising covid cases. The positivity is 17.72 per cent but it is still high,” he added.
When asked about elections, Tanavade claimed that the Election Commission of India is likely to declare the schedule in the next eight days.
“We do not know if the elections will be postponed, its the call of the ECI, but in our view, elections will likely be declared in the next 8 days,” he said.
When asked about a possible ticket to Babu Azgoankar, Tanavade refused to comment, saying that he should remain with us, and that is our view.
“We have not taken any decision of Babu contesting in Margao; we will have to look up and discuss,” he added.
As per Health bulletin, Goa reported 1,002 coronavirus positive cases in the last 24 hours, totalling 1,83,795. Goa’s positivity rate stands at 17.72 per cent.
