PANAJI: A day after the MGP surprised the BJP with win in the Deputy chairperson election, the saffron brigade has struck back by splitting one councillor of the regional party.
One MGP backed councillor Yatish Sawakar joined BJP today reducing the MGP to seven councillors.
In a major setback to the BJP in Ponda, the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party won the Dy chairperson post in the Ponda Municipal elections.
The election of MGP Backed Ameena Naik won deputy post by 8 against 7 votes was a major jolt for the BJP in Ponda Municipality.
The MGP had just seven councillors despite this they were able to win the election.
In fifteen member council BJP lost the game due to cross voting by one councillor.
BJP Ponda Block Chief Shantaram Colvenkar has warned to take action against BJP backed Councillor for cross voting. Not only one he also said that in next few days more MGP councillors are going join BJP.
This gives an indication that fast and dramatic political developments are on cards in the coming days.
