PANJIM: The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) Goa unit welcomed the agriculture Bills passed in the Parliament stating that the legislations are in “farmers interest”.Addressing a press conference, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Agriculture Chandrakant Kavlekar said that the legislations will help farmers across country including Goa in a big way.
He ruled out that the legislations are introduced to help the corporates at the cost of farmers.
Meanwhile, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar condemned the manner in which the Bills were passed in the Rajya Sabha. “It was the most undemocratic way,” he said.
The Rajya Sabha passed by voice vote Farmer’s Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020. These Bills, already passed by Lok Sabha, will now go to the President for his assent before they are notified as laws.
