Panaji: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Monday said that the decision to pass the budget without a ‘Vote on Account’ is a glaring example of the Dadagiri the BJP has imbibed through sheer arrogance of power.
“This act is not only an insult to the people of Goa but also a blatant assault on democracy,” he said.
“Since coming to power, the BJP has consistently curtailed the Opposition’s role by reducing the number of Assembly sittings. This session, originally scheduled for 14 days, was abruptly cut short to just seven sittings under the pretext of the Code of Conduct, culminating in the illegal passage of the budget,” he said.
“We were denied the opportunity to move cut motions on demands. How then can we question the government’s reckless spending and unwanted projects being imposed on the people?” Alemao questioned.
He pointed out that in other states, Assembly sessions are held even during election periods. “But here, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and his 31 MLAs, including the Speaker, were afraid we would press for the introduction of Bills to scrap Section 39-A. They have already made crores of rupees by exploiting this provision, and now they want to continue looting until the next election,” Alemao said.
He said that this corrupt BJP Government stands exposed today and people of Goa will teach them lesson by showing them door in next assembly election.
