PONDA: In a significant blow to Ponda BJP, Opposition MGP and GF backed Jaya Sawant has been elected as Ponda Municipal Council’s vice-chairperson.
Sawant defeated BJP backed Archana Dangui by nine agaisnt six votes.
Ponda BJP block President and Councillor Vishwanath Dalvi said this would not impact BJP prospect in the assembly election.
“Our candidate was sure to win. PMC election is not on party lines. Anyone can become Chairperson/ Vice-Chairperson as Councillors shares friendly relations with each other,” he said.
MGP Leader Ketan Bhatikar expressed happiness over development in PMC.
“In future, more councillors would support MGP,” he said.
GF leader Venkatesh Naik said councillors of like-minded parties committed to the development work of Ponda.
