CALANGUTE: Police have registered a case against a BMW driver from Maharashtra for allegedly causing an accident that left two riders seriously injured and fleeing the scene without offering help.
According to a complaint filed by Head Constable Pandurang Samant (HC 5456) of Calangute Police Station, the incident occurred on October 9, 2024, around 7 pm, opposite Menezes Enterprises at Naikawado, Calangute.
The accused, identified as Vijay Burud (29), a resident of Khardi Diwa Shail, Panvel Road, Thane, Maharashtra, was reportedly driving a BMW car (MH-04-MQ-1112) from Baga Circle towards Calangute Tinto when he drove rashly and negligently, colliding with two scooters — an Activa (GA-03-AE-7034) and a Dio (GA-03-BA-8376).
The collision resulted in grievous injuries to the riders and pillion riders of both scooters. Police said the driver then fled from the scene without informing the authorities or providing medical assistance to the injured.
An offence has been registered under Sections 281 and 125(a)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 134(a)(b) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
