Verna: The body of 20-year-old BITS Pilani student Kushagra Jain was handed over to his family by Verna police on Sunday. The family has taken the body to Lucknow for the final rites.
Jain, a third-year Computer Science student and resident of Lucknow, was found dead in his hostel room at the BITS Pilani Goa campus on Saturday afternoon.
His sudden death has caused deep concern within the campus community, particularly as it is the fourth student death in the hostels over the past nine months.
Police said the institution’s Deputy CMO declared Jain dead after staff found him unresponsive in his room.
“Verna Police conducted the scene panchanama and inquest panchanama. The body was then sent for post-mortem at South Goa District Hospital, Margao, where a police surgeon performed the autopsy,” a police source said.
The exact cause of death remains undetermined. Authorities said the opinion has been reserved pending chemical analysis of viscera, histopathological examination of tissues, and toxicology reports of blood samples.
As part of the inquiry, police have recorded statements of several of Jain’s friends.
“He was described as a good student with no issues on campus. He played table tennis till about 10.30 pm, consumed an energy drink afterward, and was active on a group chat until around 2 am,” the source said.
Further investigation is being carried out by Verna Police.
