MARDOL: The body of a 39-year-old man was recovered from the Zuari River near Tonka Ferry Point, Madkai, on September 14 morning.
Police said a phone call was received around 10:39 am informing that Navy divers had fished out the body and kept it at the ferry point. The deceased was later identified by his wife, Jyoti Harijan, as her husband, Muktya Harijan, a resident of Davorlim, Navelim.
Family members informed that the deceased had been suffering from severe diabetes, which had led to the amputation of his left leg, while doctors had advised amputation of his right leg as well. He had been missing since September 12, and a missing report had already been registered at Maina Curtorim Police Station.
An inquest was conducted, and postmortem at South Goa District Hospital confirmed the cause of death as asphyxia due to drowning. The body was handed over to relatives for final rites.
Enquiry is being conducted by PSI Vibhinav Shirodkar of Mardol Police Station.
