PANAJI: In a scathing attack that BJP Government has failed to stop drugs supply in the state, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has demanded to register a complaint against management of BITS Pilani-Goa Campus for incidents of six deaths of students.
“With the Randox test results confirming the presence of narcotics and sedatives like ecstasy, MDMA, and amphetamines in samples from Rishi Nair, a student of BITS Pilani Goa campus, the Goa police should investigate this case thoroughly,” Alemao said.
“In last eighteen months this is the sixth case of death from this institute. Goa Police have concealed one case of death that happened in February 2024. We cannot allow our students to succumb to such deaths. This is indeed a complete failure of the Goa police, who are unable to halt the supply of drugs, even in educational campuses,” he said.
He said that the management of this institute should also be held accountable if they have failed to implement measures to prevent such incidents.
“I have been told that there was no proper CCTV surveillance in the institute. There is no proper monitoring activities of students. Management seems to have taken these cases very lightly. They should be booked,” Alemao said.
“We have been warning that drugs have infiltrated educational institutions, but the government is often preoccupied with narrating stories of crime detection. There is a supply of drugs in the vicinity of this institute, but police have failed to stop this menace,” Alemao said.
