Margao: The BPS State Badminton Ranking Tournament 2025, organised by BPS Sports Club, Margao in collaboration with the Goa Badminton Association and the Sports Authority of Goa, has reached its decisive stage at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium, Navelim.
In the veterans’ category, top seeds lived up to their billing with commanding semifinal wins. Rupchandra Humraskar (1) stormed past Cholu Gauns 21-7, 21-4 to enter the Men’s Singles 60+ final, where he will face Filipe Barbosa, who outclassed Albert Jaques 21-12, 21-7. In the Men’s Singles 65+ category, Cancio Mascarenhas (1) produced a composed performance against Deepak Salaskar, winning 21-11, 21-15, while Ravindranath Uchil cruised past Meghasham Sawant 21-9, 21-8 to set up a mouth-watering title clash.
The open Men’s Singles qualifiers also provided plenty of drama and competitive action. Yash Desai defeated Chirag Mahale 15-5, 15-11, while Aswin Mannambalath registered back-to-back wins, first overcoming Mohammad Nadaf 15-11, 15-10 and later edging past Owais Tahasildar 15-9, 17-15. Mihir Desai battled hard to beat Shubham Swami 15-13, 10-15, 17-15, as Sarvadnya Khandeparkar (def. Siddharth Hazra 15-13, 15-7), Kamesh Naik (def. Viveknath Gawas 16-14, 11-15, 15-13) and Sparsh Kolwalkar (def. Om Kunkolienkar 15-13, 15-10) also advanced.
The tournament has attracted enthusiastic participation, with intense qualifying rounds highlighting the depth of emerging badminton talent in Goa. As the finals approach, players, fans, and officials are eagerly looking forward to a grand culmination of the championship, celebrating both competitive excellence and the growing spirit of the sport in the state.
