PANJIM: Goa’s first Arjuna Awardee, Brahmanand Shankwalkar has been appointed as the Chairman of the Goa Football Development Council (GFDC).
“It will take sometime for me settle down and look at various aspects. My first priority will be to find new talents for Goan football and train them.” said Shankwalkar
He said, “I will be very happy if Goa produces talent for international level. My focus will be on grassroots. We have to ensure that kids continue the love for the game.”
The GFDC was a brainchild of Former Goa CM Late Manohar Parrikar, when he had declared football as a state sports in July 2012. Since then Council was led by Dr Rufino Monteiro who then stepped down in November 2018.
GFDC has recently come under the scanner for allegations of siphoning Rs 1.15 crore, however Shankwalkar chose not to speak on the issue.
