PANAJI: Goa Veterans Cricket Team suffered a narrow defeat against Maharashtra Veterans in a closely contested match during the All India West Zone Veterans T20 Cricket Tournament in Nanded.
Batting first, Goa Veterans delivered a strong performance with the bat, posting an impressive total of 189 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was powered by a remarkable century from Sahil Dhuri, who played a commanding knock of 103 runs from 61 deliveries. His innings formed the backbone of Goa’s total and kept the scoreboard moving steadily.
Dhuri received valuable support from his teammates. Damodar Redkar contributed 30 runs from 32 balls, helping stabilize the innings in the middle overs. Muktar Kadri added momentum with a quick 23 from 17 deliveries, while Rajendra Dabholkar provided a late flourish. Dabholkar struck an explosive 24 runs from just six balls, pushing Goa to a competitive total by the end of their innings.
For Maharashtra Veterans, Mohan Badure emerged as the most effective bowler, claiming two wickets while conceding 26 runs. Shaikh Zahed also made a key contribution with the ball, finishing with figures of 2 for 28.
In response, Maharashtra Veterans began their chase confidently, building a strong opening partnership that produced 97 runs for the first wicket. Abhijit Kadam played a crucial role at the top of the order with a well crafted 71 from 45 balls, while Kalid Zaman supported the effort with 32 runs from 33 deliveries.
The momentum of the chase was sealed by an aggressive innings from Asif Khan, who struck a rapid 54 runs from just 21 balls. His powerful hitting guided Maharashtra to the target in the final over of the match, with the team finishing on 190 for 4.
For Goa Veterans, Prasad Patil, Basapa Madar, Rajendra Dabholkar and Sahil Dhuri each picked up one wicket. Dhuri was named Fighter of the Match for his outstanding century.
With this victory, Maharashtra Veterans advanced to the final, where they will face Vidarbha Veterans Cricket Team.
