New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the Union Budget 2026 as a human centric document that strengthens India’s foundation through path breaking reforms and long term vision. Speaking after the presentation in Parliament, he called the budget historic and said it would accelerate economic transformation while creating fresh opportunities for citizens, particularly the youth.
The Prime Minister stated that the proposals would energise the economy and help realise the dream of a developed India by 2047. He referred to the ongoing reform process as a powerful movement that would gain new momentum from the budget measures. According to him, the initiatives would give talented young Indians the freedom to innovate and contribute to national progress.
Highlighting global ambitions, he said the country was not satisfied with being the fastest growing economy and aimed to become the world’s third largest economy soon. The budget, he noted, gives major encouragement to sunrise sectors, infrastructure development and capital investment, which will create employment and strengthen industrial capacity.
He praised Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for presenting her ninth consecutive budget and said it reflected strong empowerment of women and responsible financial management. The Prime Minister added that the fiscal plan balanced discipline with growth ambitions by focusing on higher capital spending while controlling inflation and the deficit.
The budget also outlined steps to protect the economy from global uncertainties and trade disruptions. Support has been extended to exporters and strategic sectors such as semiconductors, critical minerals and advanced manufacturing. An increase in defence expenditure and new infrastructure programmes aim to build resilience and strengthen national capabilities.
The government maintained its debt targets and avoided large scale tax cuts, signalling a cautious approach in a challenging international environment. Reforms to improve ease of doing business, attract long term investment and expand global trade partnerships remain central to the strategy.
The Prime Minister concluded that the budget serves as a strong foundation for India’s high growth journey. He said it converts present aspirations into reality and prepares the nation to meet future challenges with confidence and self reliance.
