MARGAO: Builders Must Follow Vertical Forest Rules to Get OC MARGAO: In a significant move toward eco-conscious urban planning, the Goa government is preparing to implement a new policy requiring all high-rise buildings with a Floor Space Index (FSI) above 250–300 to incorporate the Vertical Forest model into their designs.
The initiative, led jointly by the Urban Development, Town & Country Planning, and Forest Departments, aims to significantly increase green cover in densely populated urban areas while promoting environmentally responsible construction practices.
Town & Country Planning Minister Vishwajit Rane confirmed that builders will only be granted Occupancy Certificates upon full adherence to the upcoming Vertical Forest regulations, which are expected to be formally introduced in the near future.
In addition, Rane revealed plans to transform the long-standing Sonsodo garbage dump into a lush green space, signaling a broader push for environmental rejuvenation across the state.
As part of this wider green initiative, the government intends to plant five lakh trees across Goa over the next three months. The campaign underscores the state’s dedication to climate action and improving ecological well-being.
Minister Rane also acknowledged the role of Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, emphasizing the importance of his leadership in realizing Goa’s green vision.
Together, these steps represent a strategic shift in Goa’s development approach, balancing modern infrastructure growth with a strong emphasis on sustainability.
