CANACONA – A Bull Buffalo (He- Buffalo) stuck in the verandah of the residential quarter of Canacona Post office building in Chaudi Canacona has been rescued by the Canacona Fire and Emergency Services personnel.
Incidentally, the Bull Buffalo is found stranded in the narrow balcony of the residential quarter of the postmaster situated on the first floor plus one floor building which houses the Canacona Post office. Incidentally, the residential quarter meant for occupation of the PostMaster is un-occupied and the flat is closed permanently, and has a narrow concrete staircase.
The bull buffalo apparently went up the narrow stairs, but could not manage to climb down through the tilted and curved narrow stair-passage. It is not known for how long the He-Buffalo (Redo) had been stuck there. However, the postal staff working below the post office was confused to understand from where they get a strong odour of cow dung and urine smell creating an unusual situation amongst the visiting people often questioning the staff for 3-4 days.
After searching around the compound and inside the building for for any cow dung and cow urine, a postal office staff member casually went upstairs and noticed that there was a Bull buffalo, and realising it has been struck there, and the F&E services personnel were informed and called to rescue the bovine.
When the firefighters went up the stairs, the Male Buffalo began to charge at them. Efforts were made to force the bull down the staircase by bursting fire crackers, but the bovine being visibly weak did not respond to the sounds of firecrackers. F& ES personnel then noticed the bull could not maneuver the narrow and curved/tilted staircase to come down from the quarter’s balcony.
Finally, the firefighters managed to tie a rope to the Bull’s horn and pull it down the stairs with great effort.
Considering the dried up dung and urine, and its weak health condition it is believed that the bull which went upstairs in search of food, has been stranded there for at least for over 5 days, while the bull buffalo is rescued, no owner came forward to claim its ownership as the bull was again left out in the open to roam and look out for its food on own.
