PANAJI: The National Fishworkers’ Forum (NFF), along with Goenchea Raponkarancho Ekvott and seven traditional fishermen associations of Goa and three traditional fishermen associations of Karnataka i.e Uttar Kanada Zilla Ambi-Ambig Sama Magali Dandebag, Majali Medugarar Sampradayak Yantrik Matu Naddhoniy Sangh and Ambig Gabit Samaj Sangh, submitted a memorandum to Fisheries director Dr Sharmila Monterio, CM Dr Pramod Sawant and Central Minister of fisheries Shri Parshottam Rupala demanding a ban on Rampant illegal fishing of Bull trawling by Malphe trawlers and LED light fishing at Goa and Karnataka territorial waters.
Olencio Simoes stated that From Bhatkal to Arambol, traditional fishermen have come in common platform with two objectives, i.e to demand strict action against destructive gears like Bull or pair trawling and use of LED lights equipped with or with the generator.
He stated that this rampant misuse of such gears has adversely hampered the livelihoods of Goa and Karnataka’s traditional fishermen as these gears have been banned in the territorial waters and Indian Exclusive Zone(EEZ) since 2016.
But sadly, the rampant violation is still continuing without fear of law.
Agnelo Rodrigues President slammed the Fisheries Minister and Director for failing to execute the ban as the department is controlled by Mafia Miguel Rodrigues (JoeCons), who first advocated such destructive technology which has been banned in most of the world and because of one person right from Bhatkal and Arambol has to return home empty-handed when they venture into the sea.
He stated that These Malphe boats from Karnataka are continuously entering the territorial waters of Goa as well as Karnataka using high-speed engines and scoops in all the fishing by illegal bull trawling methods; it is an utter shame that even after the local fishermen have caught these illegal boats and bought to the notice of the fisheries department, still these boats are conducting fishing without fear of law.
Devraj Sail President Majali Medugarar Sampradayak Yantrik Matu Naddhoniy Sangh demanded strict action on Miguel Rodrigues (JoeCons) and his all illegal boats which are using high powered china engines having more than 500HP, operating illegal big boats and size without VRC, Nets, Sonar fishing and other illegal gears to catch fish in Karnataka territorial waters as well as the state of Goa, he warned that if the state of Goa fails to take action against him, then they will be forced to take action against all Goan boat who are doing Led light fishing in Karnataka and also warns of blocking the Goa Karnataka border at Polem.

PANAJI: A day after BJP hinted at the possible induction of senior Congressman Pratasingh Rane’s into the saffron fold, the former Chief Minister ruled out that he was quitting the party.
In a video message released by Congress Party on social media, Rane asserted that he would not leave the congress party.
“News that I am quitting the Congress party is false. It is their (BJP) imagination,” he said.
The denial came a day after BJP Goa Desk Election in-charge Devendra Fadanavis said that “with the blessings of Pratapsingh Rane, Congress would be left as cycle party with only two members.”
Rane further said, “I am not leaving my party; I belong to the Congress party over 45 years.”
“I don’t think at this juncture I would think of quitting the Congress party; I belong to the Indian national congress party,” he added.
The Congress party that emerged as the single largest party in the 2017 election has only three MLAs.
