New Delhi: Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya are expected to be rested for India’s upcoming ODI series against New Zealand as part of a workload management plan focused on future priorities, including the 2026 T20 World Cup. Both players are likely to feature in the five-match T20I series, which will be India’s final T20 assignment before the global event.
Hardik has not played an ODI since the Champions Trophy final earlier this year, while Bumrah has been absent from the format since the 2023 World Cup final. The selectors are keen to avoid unnecessary strain on the senior players ahead of a busy international calendar.
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer remains under assessment as he continues his recovery from a spleen injury suffered during the Australia tour. If cleared, he could return to action in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and may be considered for the ODI squad. The selection committee is set to meet in early January to finalise the team for the series, which begins on January 11 in Vadodara.
