MORMUGAO: In a case of burglary reported on Wednesday morning, unidentified persons broke into the Mormugao Post Office at Harbour and made away with ₹20,493 in cash after forcing open a cash chest.
Police said the culprits gained entry into the premises by breaking open the back door around 9.30 am on October 22. The theft came to light following a complaint lodged by Vidya Singh Negi, Inspector of Post, Ponda Sub Division with additional charge of Margao Sub Division, residing at Ponda and originally from Himachal Pradesh.
Mormugao Police have registered a case under Sections 303(2) and 331(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. The investigation is being conducted by PSI Stanley Gomes under the supervision of PI Sheriff Jacques and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
