New Delhi: The flight data recorder recovered from the January 28 air crash that claimed the life of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar may be sent abroad for specialised analysis, according to government officials.
The aircraft’s black box has been retrieved from the crash site near Baramati in Pune district, but it was found in a severely damaged and burnt condition. Aviation authorities are assessing its technical state to determine the feasibility of extracting critical flight data. A final decision on whether to dispatch the recorder overseas for advanced data recovery is expected within the next one or two days.
Officials indicated that unlike certain previous aviation incidents where recorders could not be located, the device in this case was successfully recovered. However, the extent of damage has necessitated further technical evaluation before data retrieval can proceed.
At the same time, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has launched a parallel inquiry into the aircraft’s airworthiness and operational history. Investigators are reviewing extensive documentation obtained from the operating company, a process expected to take between 10 and 15 days. Findings from both the black box analysis and the regulatory probe will be central to establishing the cause of the accident and determining subsequent action.
The chartered Learjet 45 crashed while attempting to land at Baramati airport, resulting in the deaths of Pawar and four others. Those who lost their lives include Captain Sumit Kapoor, co pilot Captain Shambhavi Pathak, Personal Security Officer Vidip Jadhav, and flight attendant Pinky Mali.
The investigation is being conducted by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau along with the civil aviation regulator. Authorities have stated that the inquiry remains ongoing, and no official conclusion regarding the cause of the crash has yet been announced.
