Assonora: Colvale Police have arrested the accused bus driver in connection with a fatal road accident reported near Jerry Bar, Assonora, on 02 January 2026.
According to police, the accused Tukaram Sawant (33), a resident of Tari Wado, Marcel, Goa, was driving a Tata bus bearing registration number GA-03-N-6019 in a rash and negligent manner at around 7.45 am while proceeding from Mapusa towards Bicholim. The bus allegedly dashed into a Hero motorcycle bearing registration number GA-03-AQ-1805, which was coming from the opposite direction.
As a result of the collision, both the rider and pillion rider fell on the road. The pillion rider, Smruti Xetcar (45) of Corjuem, Aldona, sustained fracture injuries to her right shoulder, right hand and right leg, while the rider, Laxmikant Xetcar (45) of the same address, succumbed to his injuries at District Hospital, Mapusa, during treatment.
Following the complaint filed by Shri Haresh Redkar (43) of Colvale Police Station, police registered a case and arrested the accused driver.
An offence under Sections 281, 125(b) and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered, and further investigation is in progress.
