Verna: A motorcycle rider was killed in a fatal road accident involving a passenger bus at Verna on December 28, 2025. According to a complaint lodged by HC 5895 Shiva Naik of Verna Police Station, the incident occurred at around 6.45 pm when the accused bus driver, Jakir Hussain Shaikh, a resident of Sancoale, allegedly drove the bus in a rash and negligent manner while proceeding from Margao towards Vasco. When the bus reached near Santa Marble & Granite shop at Fr. Agnel Ashram, Verna, it reportedly dashed into an oncoming Honda Shine motorcycle.
As a result of the collision, the motorcycle rider, Kevin Ishanti Pereira, a resident of Sangargali, Belgaum, Gunji in Karnataka, was thrown onto the road along with the bike. Due to the impact, the motorcycle caught fire and was engulfed in flames. The injured rider was immediately shifted to South Goa District Hospital, Margao, by a 108 ambulance, where he was declared brought dead.
Police conducted an inquest panchanama over the body and later referred it for post-mortem examination. The police surgeon who conducted the autopsy certified the cause of death as a “combined effect of crania cerebral damage due to blunt force impact and extreme antemortem body surface flame burn injuries.” After completion of formalities, the body was handed over to the family members for final religious rites.
Further investigation in the case is being carried out by PSI Mahesh Bhomkar of Verna Police Station.
