PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has assured that by 2026, all workers dependent on mining in Goa will be gainfully employed, as the sector resumes operations in line with legal and environmental guidelines.
Sawant said mining activities will restart under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) (MNDR) rules and the 2015 Act, while adhering to the Supreme Court’s directives on environmentally sustainable practices.
“So far, 12 mining leases have been auctioned. Of these, nine will commence operations immediately, while three are expected to begin by March,” the Chief Minister informed.
He further added that the remaining five mining blocks in North and South Goa would start functioning within the next 20 days.
“By 2026, no person dependent on mining will remain unemployed,” Sawant assured.
