PANAJI: The Goa State Election Commission, Altinho, has announced the conduct of bye-elections to three vacant wards of Village Panchayats, which will be held on May 11, 2025. The elections will take place in Ward No. I of Village Panchayat Tivim in Bardez, Ward No. VII of Village Panchayat Assonora in Bardez, and Ward No. I of Village Panchayat Chicalim in Mormugao taluka. The counting of votes will be held on May 12, 2025.
The District Collectors of North Goa and South Goa have been appointed as the District Election Officers. The Mamlatdars of the respective talukas will serve as the Returning Officers, and the Awal Karkuns in the offices of the Mamlatdars will function as Assistant Returning Officers. The election will be conducted by ballot, and polling will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The expenditure limit for each candidate contesting in a Village Panchayat ward has been fixed at ₹40,000.
The ward-wise voters’ lists for the concerned wards were published on April 8, 2025. The Model Code of Conduct came into force from April 16, 2025, and will remain applicable in the areas under the jurisdiction of the above-mentioned wards until the completion of the election process. To ensure compliance, the Commission has appointed General Observers, Expenditure Observers, and deployed flying squads.
According to the schedule issued, nomination papers will be accepted from April 21 to April 28, 2025, between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., excluding April 27 (Sunday). The scrutiny of nominations will take place on April 29 from 10:00 a.m. onwards, and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is April 30, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The polling date is May 11, 2025, followed by the counting of votes on May 12, 2025, starting from 8:00 a.m.
The designated polling stations are as follows: St. Clara High School, Assonora (East Wing) for Assonora Panchayat Ward No. VII (General), Government Primary School, Madel (East Wing) for Tivim Panchayat Ward No. I (General), and Government Primary School, Chicalim (Room No. 1) for Chicalim Panchayat Ward No. I (General). The Election Commission has appealed to voters in the respective wards to participate in the democratic process in large numbers.
