New Delhi: The flagship Byju’s Learning App has been delisted from the Google Play Store due to non-payment of dues to its cloud services vendor, Amazon Web Services (AWS), according to sources familiar with the matter.
The app, operated by edtech firm Think and Learn Pvt Ltd, is no longer available for download on Android devices. However, other Byju’s apps, such as Byju’s Premium Learning and Byju’s Exam Prep, remain available on the platform, indicating that those are managed through different vendors not affected by the AWS payment issue.
“The removal of Byju’s Learning App is due to pending payments to AWS, which provides backend support for the application,” a source told PTI. The source added that the company’s operations are currently overseen by an Insolvency Resolution Professional (IRP), Shailendra Ajmera, who is tasked with addressing all financial obligations during the ongoing insolvency proceedings.
An email query sent to Ajmera received no response.
Despite its removal from Google Play Store, the Byju’s Learning App is still accessible on Apple’s App Store for iOS users. The app covers academic subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology for classes 4 to 12, and social studies for classes 6 to 8, in addition to competitive exam preparation for JEE, NEET, and IAS aspirants.
Byju’s, once hailed as India’s most valuable edtech startup, is currently facing financial distress. The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has initiated insolvency proceedings against the company following appeals by multiple investors, including the lender-authorised agency GLAS Trust.
As the insolvency process unfolds, the removal of the core learning app marks another major setback for the troubled edtech giant.
