PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that Cabinet has accorded in-principal approval to the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) to Goa government employees.
CM Sawant was addressing the press conference after chairing the cabinet meeting.
“Cabinet has accorded in-principal approval to Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) to Goa government employees. Union cabinet has already cleared the proposal,’ said Sawant.
He further said that government employees who have adequate services will get assured pension at 50% of last 12 months’ average salary as pension.
“Minimum pension is Rs 10,000 per month to be given to those who have completed atleast 10 years of service. Family pension to the spouse to be given at 60% of the pension,’ he added.
Sawant also went on to say that DNS relief will also be provided.
Cabinet has approved an extension to IT Policy 2020 and its related schemes.
Union Government unveiled the new ‘Unified Pension Scheme’ (UPS) on Aug 24 for Central govt employees. The scheme assures government employees half their last drawn salary as a lifelong monthly benefit.
The scheme has several other features benefiting pensioners, such as a periodic dearness relief hike in line with inflation and a minimum pension of Rs10,000 a month for pensioners with at least 10 years of government service, to name a few.
Center had announced the scheme for its employees and given the states the liberty to adopt the scheme at their discretion.
Unlike the old pension scheme, UPS is contributory in nature, wherein employees will be required to contribute 10 per cent of their basic salary and dearness allowance (DA) while the employer’s contribution (the central government) will be 18.5 per cent.
