
PANJIM:Amidst growing opposition to the proposed 400KV power transmission lines through Mollem Wildlife Sanctuary, Power Minister Nilesh Cabral today released a White Paper justifying the need for the proposed infrastructure.
In a press conference, Cabral said that as per the data, domestic consumers consume more than 60 percent of the total load that Goa requires as against the industrial sector, which is around 20 percent.
He said that Goa’s power demand witness increase of average 5 percent every year in last ten years.
Cabral said that State’s power requirement which was 476 MW per day in 2010-11, increased to 612MW per day in 2019-20 and 569 MW during the current pandemic time, when the industries were shut.
He further said that since 2010-11, the domestic power demand witnessed average 4-5 percent increase, as against the industrial need of 2-3 per cent.
Cabral said that it will take three years to complete the Goa Tanmar Power Transmission project
He also said that government has no plans to set up power generating plant in the State nor to make Goa a coal hub.
