PANAJI: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Wednesday termed the violent incident at Calangute beach involving a tourist as “very serious,” stating that such acts cannot be treated as normal and will not be tolerated. He said the department has issued a show-cause notice to the concerned shack seeking an explanation.
Khaunte said both the shack owner and those involved in the assault will be held responsible, emphasizing that all stakeholders operating on Goa’s beaches must strictly follow the law and maintain discipline. He added that any violation affecting tourist safety would invite strict action.
The minister noted that incidents of violence damage Goa’s reputation as a safe tourist destination and assured that the tourism department is taking the matter seriously. “Such behaviour cannot be normalized. The law must be followed by everyone, and accountability will be fixed,” he said.
