CALANGUTE: Calangute Police have busted a massage spa-linked cheating and robbery racket operating in the beach belt area after tourists were allegedly targeted and robbed. Acting on complaints, police carried out preventive arrests in the case.
The arrested accused have been identified as Hemant Joshi (26), son of Mohar Singh Joshi, resident of Calangute, Bardez, Goa, originally from Goliar, Madhya Pradesh; Bharat Rathod (27), son of Kesu Rathod, resident of Nagoa, Bardez, Goa, originally from Bijapur, Karnataka; Pushpendra Meena (34), son of Sahajram Meena, resident of Maddowado, Calangute, Bardez, Goa, originally from Todupura, Karauli district, Rajasthan; and Avinash Singh (29), son of Ramnath Singh, resident of Tivai Wado, Calangute, Goa, originally from Amrai Navada, Bhojpur, Bihar.
Police said the accused were allegedly involved in luring tourists into spa-related services and subsequently cheating and robbing them. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the wider network and involvement of other individuals in the racket. Authorities have warned that strict action will continue against such tourist-targeted scams in the coastal belt.
