CALANGUTE: In a significant development in the Porbavaddo murder case, Calangute Police have arrested the accused and secured 11 days of police custody as investigation gathers pace.
An offence was registered on January 1, 2026, at 2.55 pm at Calangute Police Station based on a state complaint filed by PSI Kiran Naik, following an enquiry into an unnatural death case (UD No. 01/2026) under Section 194 of the BNSS.
Police investigations revealed that prior to 2.44 am on January 1, 2026, the accused Kamal Adhikari, a native of West Bengal and presently residing at Porbavaddo, Calangute, allegedly assaulted Shipad Debnath (about 62), also a native of West Bengal, inside the compound of a property owned by Mr. Alex, opposite Jerry Wine Store, Porbavaddo.
The accused reportedly attacked the victim with a sharp weapon, inflicting severe cut injuries on the face and chest. Shipad Debnath later succumbed to the injuries, leading police to register a case of murder against the accused.
Calangute Police utilized the services of the Forensic Team, Dog Squad, and Fingerprint Experts while conducting the scene of offence panchanama to collect crucial evidence.
The accused Kamal Adhikari was produced before the jurisdictional Magistrate, who remanded him to 11 days of police custody for further interrogation. Further investigation in the case is being carried out by PI Paresh Naik of Calangute Police Station.
