PANAJI: In a successful operation, the Calangute Police arrested two individuals involved in an IPL betting racket on the night of April 8-9, 2025. The accused were caught red-handed while accepting illegal bets during the 20-20 IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab. The arrest occurred at Room No. 101, D Block, Sun and Sand Apartments, near Fortune Hotel in Sinquerim, Goa, between 11:20 PM on April 8 and 1:50 AM on April 9. The two men have been identified as Shri Datla Phaneendra Varma, aged 37, from Thopavari Street, Ramachandrapuram, East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, and Shri Vejandla Sai Babu, aged 36, from Vinayaka Gudi, Daggra Tanuku Mandalam, Pydiparru, Tanuku, West Godavari, Andhra Pradesh. Police seized 10 Nokia keypad mobile phones, one HP laptop, and various other accessories used for betting, with an approximate total value of Rs. 95,000. The operation was carried out under the leadership of Police Sub Inspector Saieel G. Vaigankar, with the supervision of PI Paresh Naik, SDPO Vishwesh Karpe, and SP North Akshat Kaushal, IPS. The authorities have assured further investigations into the case to identify other individuals involved in the illegal betting network. The Calangute Police have called on the public to report any suspicious activities linked to illegal gambling and betting operations.
