CALANGUTE: Calangute Police booked 30 cases during a special drive against illegal hawkers, public drinking and touting along Candolim-Baga coast on Thursday.
The special drive was conducted by Calangute Police Station led by PI Paresh G Naik and PI Tourist Unit Jatin J Potdar to clear hawkers selling items along the beach belt at Candolim, Calangute, and Baga, thereby causing nuisance to tourists and the public.
Many things were seized during the drive, and 14 complaints were filed under Section 34 of the IP Act. Nine incidences of hawking and seven cases of public drinking were also reported.
Along with educating visitors about dos and don’ts, the police squad also warned them against unlawful touts.
Additionally, public announcements were placed along the beaches of Calangute and Baga, cautioning visitors to exercise exhort when participating in water sports. Local business owners were asked to continue acting courteously towards clients.
To avoid any unfortunate situations, police have been stationed at every static point under the jurisdiction of Calangute Police Station.
