CALANGUTE: The Calangute Police arrested a 36-year-old man and seized methamphetamine worth approximately ₹4.5 lakh during a raid conducted near Little Goa Restaurant at Porbovaddo, Calangute, on Monday.
Acting on credible information that a person would be arriving at the spot to deliver narcotic drugs to prospective customers, a police team from Calangute Police Station laid a trap and conducted the raid in the presence of panch witnesses.
During the operation, the accused, Vishnu Harmalkar, son of Sham Harmalkar, a resident of Satarshet, Aldona, Bardez, was found in illegal possession of a brownish crystal powder-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine, weighing 45.3 grams.
The seized narcotic substance is estimated to be worth ₹4,50,000, police said.
The raid was carried out by a team comprising PSI Rajaram Bagkar, PC Anshul Ghadi, PC Sandip Gawas, PC Siddhant Lamgaonkar, PC Gaurang Surlekar, and PC Gitesh Gawas.
Following the seizure, a complaint was lodged by PSI Rajaram Bagkar, and an offence under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 was registered by PSI Vishwajit Dhavalikar at Calangute Police Station.
Further investigation is underway under the supervision of PI Paresh Naik, with overall supervision by SDPO Porvorim Vishwesh Karpe and SP North Goa Harishchandra Madkaikar, IPS.
