CALANGUTE: Two staff members of a beach shack at Calangute have been arrested and remanded to five days police custody for allegedly assaulting a tourist and his friends with metal rods and beach umbrella poles.
According to Calangute Police, a complaint was filed by Sayed Zakir (27), a resident of HBR Layout, Bengaluru, stating that on March 24 at around 11.30 am, he and his six friends were assaulted at Planet Goa Beach Shack, Calangute.
Police said accused Dinesh Kumar and Dhupendra Yadav, along with others, allegedly attacked the group using beach umbrella rods and metal rods, causing bleeding injuries.
Based on the complaint, Calangute Police registered Crime No. 46/2026 under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. During investigation, both accused were apprehended following Supreme Court guidelines and formally placed under arrest. They were later produced before the court and remanded to five days police custody for further investigation.
Police said efforts are underway to identify and apprehend additional accused involved in the incident.
Officials further stated that staff of the same shack were previously involved in a similar case registered at Calangute Police Station in 2025 under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The case has already been charge-sheeted and is currently under trial before the court.
In view of repeated violations, police have submitted a detailed report to the Director of Tourism recommending appropriate action, including revocation of the shack’s licence.
Further investigation is in progress.
