CALANGUTE: The village panchayats of Calangute, Candolim and Arpora Nagoa has decided to go in for a 10-day partial lockdown from tomorrow in wake of rising COVID19 cases and deaths.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting called of all panchayats.
“After the meeting Calangute had decided to go for a 10-day Containment Zone to break this chain of the virus,” said Calangute Sarpanch Shawn Martins.
He said that the COVID19 has claimed many lives and a 35-year-old young neighbour of minister Michael Lobo too passed away today.
“We are making this as a containment zone as the request is come from the people. We had to take this drastic step. This containment zone will be there for 10-days in Calangute Arpora Nagoa and Candolim,” he said.
He said the people working in government departments, private companies etc will be allowed to move provided they show an identity card.
“No hotels can take new booking. Those who are staying will be taken care of. When their bookings end, they will be allowed to leave,” Martins said.
He said that all essential shops will be open and goods vehicles will be allowed inside.
“Groceries, milk, meat, fish etc will be available from morning 6 am to 12 pm. All shops will close at 12,” he said.
He said that all construction work will stop.
“Minor repairs depending upon the houses for monsoons will be allowed. All wedding celebrations will be cancelled. Religious places will be allowed with 10 to 20 people,” he says.
Minister Michael Lobo said that the essential services will not be stopped.
“People must not panic. Don’t create rush in shops, this lockdown was much needed. Young people are perishing. We want people to co-operate. Please help us to help them,” he stated.
